Security guard Hernan Gil was saved after miraculously surviving eight days buried under rubble from two earthquakes that rocked Venezuela.
The 43-year-old’s rescue took five days of intricate engineering and expert advice from seven countries after he was buried under a collapsed building.
Gil, an overnight guard of the Galerías Playa Grande shopping centre in La Guaira, sat in his security booth when the first earthquake hit.
Gil’s wife, Gusbimar Gonzalez, called her husband’s survival a “miracle” after he was removed from the rubble on a stretcher.
