There are growing calls for an urgent overhaul of a federal government scheme many say puts Pacific Island and Timorese workers at risk of exploitation in regional Australia.
There are more than 7,000 workers who have disengaged from the Federal Government’s Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme.
Many have stayed working here either unlawfully or on bridging visas.
