Myanmar’s military junta is being accused of weaponising citizenship to silence opponents to the regime. It comes after 13 well-known anti-coup celebrities were stripped of their citizenship and left stateless. Many of them are currently living abroad and can’t go anywhere due to cancelled passports. The junta has justified their actions by using a clause in the 1982 Myanmar citizenship law, accusing the individuals of engaging in actions harmful to national interests. Richard Horsey from the International Crisis Group tells The World it’s not the first time the junta has gone down this path. #ABCTheWorld #ABCAsiaPacific
