Seven men were arrested on Thursday night in Liverpool in Sydney’s south-west. Following a tip-off from Victoria Police, tactical officers intercepted two vehicles.
NSW Police commissioner Mal Lanyon says “we had information that the men may attend Bondi as one of a number of locations”, but did not know what purpose the men had for their visit. The men have not been charged, and Lanyon says police will “have to release the men if there’s no sufficient evidence”.
In response to reports one of the men arrested was under investigation by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, Lanyon said he was not “prepared to comment on that at the moment”.
All seven men have now been released.
