Josh Dean and Dee have travelled to some of the country’s most remote locations, and they’ve had to be savvy when packing supplies.
Dee told Yahoo Lifestyle that they’ve “learnt how to live with less and make things last longer”, including water.
Rather than relying on running water to clean dirty dishes and bottles, they instead use two spray bottles – one filled with diluted dishwashing detergent and the other with clean water.
They spray the dirty item with the detergent mixture, wipe it down, then rinse it using the clean water bottle before drying it with a cloth.
Dee said, “You use only what you actually need instead of wasting litres at a time, so it means you can stay out in beautiful remote places for much longer without needing to pack up and leave.”
She added, “When you’re camping off-grid, water is basically liquid gold. Every litre counts, especially when you’re days or even weeks away from the nearest town or water refill. Most people probably don’t realise how quickly water disappears when you’re using it for drinking, cooking, dishes and showers everyday.”
In addition to the spray bottle hack, the couple use creek or river water where possible to wash down their boat or clean gear, rather than using their drinking water supply.
