Paul Papalia resigns from parliament for family | 7NEWS

Western Australian Labor Minister Paul Papalia has announced his resignation from parliament after a family member was diagnosed with a serious illness. The veteran politician, who served 26 years in the Navy including as a clearance diver and SAS member, has held 10 ministerial portfolios since entering parliament in 2007, including police, prisons, and emergency services. His departure will trigger a by-election in the beachside electorate of Secret Harbour, 50 kilometres south of Perth, with Labor facing a potential challenge from One Nation.
