Speaking from Richmond’s London Tavern on Thursday morning as part of an election pledge, the Victorian premier, Ben Carroll, announced plans to give pubs the automatic right to extend trading hours until 3am.

Under the proposal, individual publicans will also be given the authority to allow pets, such as dogs, into their venues to foster a more family-friendly atmosphere.
Highlighting the need to cut red tape, Carroll criticised current administrative hurdles as ‘ridiculous’, pointing to European models that show how pet-friendly venues and extended hours can boost the local economy.
