More than five million black market cigarettes and one tonne of loose tobacco have been seized in raids across Perth, with almost 50 stores shut down for 90 days for selling illegal tobacco or vaping products. The $11 million haul also included over 51,000 vapes, 85 kilograms of shisha and nearly 4,500 cigars, following tip-offs from concerned parents and businesses. The crackdown comes amid debate over whether lowering tobacco taxes would reduce illegal trade, with public health experts warning against such measures.
