Political crisis looms as France’s Prime Minister faces vote of no confidence

France’s Prime Minister Francois Bayrou is trying to save his government ahead of a vote of no confidence.

He’s facing political uncertainty over plans to cut public spending, which opposition parties have vowed to reject.

If events in the national assembly go according to predictions, the French government will have been toppled against, and President Emmanuel Macron will be looking for his fifth prime minister in under two years.

This comes after Mr Bayrou has proposed a highly controversial budget which includes more than £40 billion in savings.
