Political drama unfolds in Thailand after PM removed

Thailand’s prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra was dismissed last week for an ethics violation.

Shinawatra had been suspended since July after a phone conversation she had with Cambodia’s former leader Hun Sen in June was leaked. In it, she called Hun Sen “uncle” and criticised the Thai army amid worsening border tensions with Cambodia.

Now, opposition parties are trying to claim power while Shinawatra’s party petitions Thailand’s king to call a snap election.
