Pope says God ‘rejects’ the prayers of ‘those who wage war’; White House responds

Pope Leo XIV said no one can use God to “justify war” during a Palm Sunday address in St Peter’s Square attended by tens of thousands.

He said God “rejects” the prayers of “those who wage war”. Quoting a passage from the Old Testament, he added: “[God] will not listen; your hands are full of blood.”

When asked about the Pope’s comments, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the US was founded on “Judeo-Christian” values and that she didn’t “think there’s anything wrong with our military leaders or with the president calling on the American people to pray” for people serving in the US military.
