The federal government has announced it will commit $12 billion to the construction of the Henderson Defence Precinct in Perth, including facilities for AUKUS submarine maintenance.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s pledge comes after key US officials demanded Australia boost its defence spending to 3.5% of its GDP.
