The heir to the Norwegian throne Crown Prince Haakon made the announcement during an official visit to Japan, explaining that Ingrid Alexandra “plans to come home soon. It has to do with the family situation. She wants to be with her mother.”

The 22-year-old princess is in the midst of a three-year bachelor’s degree with a focus on international relations and political economy at the University of Sydney, and it’s not known how long she’ll be staying in Norway.

The Royal House of Norway announced earlier this year that Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s health had “deteriorated” following her diagnosis of chronic pulmonary fibrosis in 2018.

Crown Prince Haakon said that “The Crown Princess is seriously ill, and I think she had gotten a bit worse lately. So I am worried about her health.”
