Putin labels Trump’s oil sanctions as ‘an unfriendly act towards Russia’

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russia will never bow to “pressure” from the United States or any other foreign power following major sanctions from US President Donald Trump’s administration over the war in Ukraine.

Trump targeted Russia’s two biggest oil companies with sanctions in a sharp policy shift, prompting global oil prices to rise by nearly 5 per cent on Thursday and India to consider cutting Russian imports.

Putin called Trump’s move an “unfriendly” act and “will have certain consequences, but they will not significantly affect our economic well-being”.

“No self-respecting country and no self-respecting people ever decides anything under pressure.”
