According to Vanity Fair, the former comptroller of the Royal Household Sir Andrew Ford revealed that “the Queen, the night before the State Opening of Parliament, would… wear the Imperial State Crown whilst sitting at her desk to get used to the weight.”

“I remember her telling me, ‘It’s very heavy, you know’.”

The 3-pound Imperial State Crown is one of the heaviest head pieces owned by the royal family, and Queen Elizabeth wore it for the last time publicly at the State Opening of Parliament in 2016 when she was 90 years old.
