Queensland family facing deportation from Australia

A Queensland family who have lived in Toowoomba for more than a decade are waiting on a decision from the immigration minister that will determine if they’re allowed to stay in Australia.

Reyna Nangan and Karin Yechoku, who are from the Philippines and Thailand, have lived in Australia for over 14 years. They own a restaurant in Toowoomba, where their daughter was born and has spent her entire life. Now, they are at risk of deportation.

Mother Reyna said a past employer failed to follow through with a visa application, which has left them in bureaucratic limbo.

It’s a visa battle that’s caught the attention of the community and local leaders, who are fighting for the family to stay.
