A recent episode showed Ray’s character Alf Stewart being pulled over for driving with an expired registration and an expired licence.
At 81 years old, Ray told TV Week it was a very understandable situation.
He said, “I really enjoyed doing this storyline because I can relate to people picking up the registration papers and then putting it aside and forgetting about it. And for a lot of the [older people], you don’t get the hard copy anymore, so it’s easy to [forget].”
“Then I can relate to the scene of him having to get a medical clearance to get his licence. All of it makes sense to me… I understood where all the writers were going with it.”
The storyline took two weeks to film, and Ray said some of the scenes were “quite harrowing”, but he “really enjoyed” fleshing out the intricacies of what Alf was going through.
