This is the highest-resolution footage captured to date of the sun’s visible surface. Recorded by the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope in Hawaii, the video reveals swirling, whirlpool-like structures in magnetized plasma near a sunspot. The structures offer new clues to how magnetic energy moves through the sun’s surface and what might cause solar flares and explosions.
