Socceroos assistant coach Paul Okon says he was expecting Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to declare Friday a day off so Australians could watch the team’s final World Cup group match against Paraguay at 12pm AEST. ‘I was expecting our Prime Minister, Mr Albanese, to give everyone a day off so people didn’t need to scramble to find a TV wherever they could to watch it,’ Okon says from the team’s training facility in Oakland, California. Okon says he is unsure whether the midday kick-off is a good or bad timeslot, but hopes the Socceroos can reward the support they have received. ‘We sincerely hope we can bring more joy,’ he says of the Australians tuning in to support the team
