Brian Niccol, chairman and chief executive of Starbucks, sat down with Brian Sozzi the morning after earnings and would not accept the word turnaround. The turn has already occurred, he says, and the company is back to being a growth company.
What he credits is not clever. Stores staffed properly, a service standard the baristas were asked to own, and a morning rush stretched from two hours to three and now heading for four.
He also describes a drive-thru feature Starbucks has not named yet: the app recognises you as you pull in, and your usual order is already on screen and already paid.
