Strong start on ASX fades | Consumer confidence lowest on record | Airlines on notice

The Australian sharemarket was buoyed by hopes of a possible de-escalation in the Iran war, but investor confidence soon faded on reports that Gulf states could be close to joining the conflict. The ASX 200 closing just 0.2 per cent higher. The oil price briefly dipped below $100 USD a barrel, but rose back above it.
