The student visa application refusal rate has hit a 10-year high, with 24.2% of applicants being knocked back, Home Affairs data shows.
Some countries, including India and Nepal, have recorded refusal rates up to nearly 50% while China recorded a rejection rate of 5.8%.
The increase coincides with the government’s crackdown on non-genuine students.
Industry practitioners have criticised the Genuine Student assessment as highly subjective.
