A gas cylinder explosion sparked a fire at a restaurant and karaoke bar in Huancane, Peru, killing 10 people, including eight students, and leaving three others seriously injured.
The blaze tore through the building on Thursday, with neighbours trying to contain the flames as the town’s lack of a fire brigade delayed help.
Authorities said the venue had no working extinguishers or visible emergency exits.
The tragedy has renewed scrutiny of safety enforcement in entertainment venues across the Puno region.
