Tens of thousands flee fighting in Yemen as the UN warns of a humanitarian crisis

The UN says that fierce fighting in Yemen between the Houthis and Yemeni government forces has now left more than 100,000 people displaced.

Thousands have made the perilous journey across the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to seek shelter in Djibouti as violence continues to grip Yemen’s western coast.

The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has accused Houthi rebels of crossing a “red line” by launching a drone towards Mecca – Islam’s holiest city.

A senior Houthi official has rejected claims of targeting Mecca as a “worn-out lie”.

Security alerts were issued across Saudi Arabia, including Mecca, following a week of attacks by Iran-backed fighters in the deepening regional war.
