More than 30 solar-powered cars have hit the road, departing Darwin for Adelaide as part of the eighteenth World Solar Challenge.

The vehicles have been designed, built and driven by students from around the world, with several teams encountering rough patches early in the 3-thousand kilometre marathon race. By Joseph Hathaway-Wilson reports for ABC News Northern Territory.
