Catherine adorned her cream-coloured lace gown with the Lovers’ Knot—a pearl-laden tiara that had been one of Diana’s favourites.

The Lovers’ Knot was originally created for Queen Mary in 1914 and it was passed onto her granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

The Queen loaned the tiara to Diana in 1981 and it became one of her favourite pieces, despite it reportedly being so heavy that it hurt her head.

After Diana’s death in 1997, the tiara wasn’t worn publicly until Catherine wore the headpiece for the first time in 2015.
