‘There isn’t a legal avenue’: Doubts over Steve Bannon’s ‘dubious’ Trump 2028 claims

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer has cast doubt over former White House strategist Steve Bannon’s explosive claim that Donald Trump will serve a third term as president.

Mr Bannon claimed in an interview with The Economist that Mr Trump “is going to be president” in 2028 despite there being a term limit.

When questioned about the 22nd amendment, he said there were “many different alternatives” and that there was a “plan”.

“One, there isn’t a legal avenue for it to happen, and secondly and most importantly, President Trump wouldn’t want to have to do it,” Mr Spicer told Sky News host James Morrow.

“I think he’s loved being president, which is what Steve is correct about, but I have a hard time thinking that he really wants to go through this again.”
