A centuries-old tradition involving handmade fireworks is drawing international tourists to a small rural town in South Korea.
Once banned during Japanese occupation, the ‘falling flowers’ fireworks festival, Nakhwa Nori, is now a symbol of cultural revival and regional reconciliation.
Around a thousand Japanese tourists attended the event in the southern town of Haman.
With South Korea hosting the APEC Summit later this month, both nations will be seeking to build on shared security and economic goals and highlight moments of cultural connection.
