Troops deployed in Indonesia as police officials arrested over wiretapping

The Indonesian military says it’s deploying more than 20,000 troops to the capital after the president’s chief of staff was arrested in an alleged wiretapping scandal.

Listyo Sigit Pabowo was detained alongside two other senior police officials who’ve been accused of illegally wiretapping the phones of President Prabowo Subianto and dozens of other prominent figures.

Tensions are already heightened in Jakarta, with several protests scheduled for the coming days.

SBS International Correspondent Claudia Farhart is there.
