US President Donald Trump has walked back on his plan to deploy national guard troops to New York City after his meeting with the city’s mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani.
He praised Mamdani’s historic election win during their meeting at the White House yesterday, saying he could do a “great job”.
Trump had previously threatened to cut federal funding to the US’ biggest city and to send in the national guard if Mamdani won the mayoral election.
