The proposed coalition would bring together partner nations to safeguard vital sea lanes after recent disruptions linked to the US-Iran conflict. According to an internal cable reportedly approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the MFC is envisioned as a key step toward building a post-conflict maritime security framework in the region. Notably, key ‘US adversaries’ like Russia, China, Belarus, and Cuba are excluded from the outreach. The move comes after traffic through the Strait of Hormuz sharply declined following US and Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran’s subsequent blockade.
