Trump says ceasefire ‘over’ after US and Iran trade strikes

Donald Trump has told media at the NATO summit in Türkiye that he believes the ceasefire between the US and Iran is now “over”, but added that he would allow negotiations to continue.

It follows a dramatic escalation in the Gulf with Iran and the US launching dozens of new military strikes.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards say they’ve struck 85 US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait in response to American attacks.

US Central Command earlier stated it had launched “a series of powerful strikes” on Iran after three commercial vessels were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.

NATO secretary general Mark Rutte says the new attacks on Iran were “absolutely necessary”.

The development comes as Iran prepares to bury its slain leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
