US President Donald Trump has said that as long as he’s “around”, Kim Jong Un — who Trump has repeatedly touted as a “friend” — is not going to be a risk with North Korea’s substantial nuclear capacity.
Trump made the comments after a journalist asked why Iran should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons while North Korea is permitted to, adding: “He does have a nuclear capacity, a large, a pretty large nuclear capacity … he’s going to be fine.”
“You know why? Because he respects me and he likes me,” he said.
South Korea estimates North Korea possesses between 80 and 120 nuclear warheads.
