The US government has shut down, with President Donald Trump fuelling the blame game by posting an AI-generated video targeting Democrats — a move condemned across party lines.
The clip, depicting House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries with a fake moustache and sombrero, was branded “disgusting” by critics.
“Mr President, the next time you have something to say about me, don’t cop out through a racist and fake AI video,” Jeffries told reporters.
At the heart of the deadlock is healthcare, with Democrats pushing to extend benefits set to expire this year, while Republicans insist the issue be addressed separately.
