Typhoon Kajiki LIVE: Vietnam Plans Mass Evacuation, China Shuts Sanya as Storm Kajiki Intensifies

Typhoon Kajiki is due to make landfall in Vietnam, bringing with it strong winds and heavy rain that has been compared to Typhoon Yagi, which killed more than 300 people last year and caused $3.3 billion of damage. Vietnam announced plans to evacuate more than half a million people and ordered boats to stay ashore, while the southern Chinese city of Sanya closed businesses and public transport on Sunday as both braced for an intensifying Typhoon Kajiki, reported Reuters. The storm is forecast to “brush past” the southern coast of China’s island province of Hainan from Sunday evening before heading for Vietnam, China’s National Meteorological Center said.
