US and China sign off on TikTok deal to avoid ban

TikTok has secured a long-term agreement with Washington, allowing the app to continue operating in the United States.

The Chinese-owned platform was briefly banned last year, prompting negotiations over data security.

Under the deal, TikTok will form a majority US-owned joint venture to secure American user data.

Oracle, private equity firm Silver Lake, and Abu Dhabi-based investor MGX will oversee the new US operation.
