Iraq has officially confirmed the complete withdrawal of US-led coalition forces from the country, marking the end of the coalition’s military mission against ISIS. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said the departure opens a new phase in which Iraqi forces and state institutions take full responsibility for the country’s security and stability. The final coalition personnel and equipment left Erbil Air Base, completing a withdrawal agreed upon by Baghdad and Washington. The US-led coalition had operated in Iraq since 2014, supporting Iraqi forces in the fight against ISIS. While the military mission has ended, security cooperation between Iraq and coalition countries is expected to continue through bilateral arrangements, including training and intelligence support. The development marks a major shift in Iraq’s military and strategic relationship with the United States.
