US government shuts down again over disagreement on ICE

The US federal government has shut down for the third time since Donald Trump’s re-election after Congress failed to pass laws over the weekend.

It’s due to a disagreement over the Democrats’ demands for specific change to how ICE is operating.

Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has called ICE a “rogue” force which needs to be “reined in”.

“We have a rogue agency; why don’t we rein them in? That’s what the American people are asking Republicans, and that’s why they’re going to have to go along with us,” he said.
