The US Senate is expected to vote on the confirmation of Jay Clayton as Director of National Intelligence (DNI), a key position overseeing America’s intelligence community. If confirmed, Clayton will become the permanent head of the nation’s intelligence agencies at a crucial time, with the 2026 US midterm elections approaching.
The confirmation vote follows Senate approval of procedural steps that advanced Clayton’s nomination. As DNI, he would be responsible for coordinating the work of the United States’ 18 intelligence agencies and advising the President on national security and intelligence matters.
