The US military has carried out its first Pacific strike in a growing campaign against alleged drug traffickers, destroying a boat off Colombia, nearly 5000km from US shores, and killing two people.
It’s the eighth such attack since September, after seven similar strikes in the Caribbean killed more than 30 people.
The White House claims the alleged cartel members are tied to terrorist groups, giving the president power to use military force.
But critics say there’s no clear evidence of those links, warning the legal justification is shaky.
The operation has sparked growing concern across South America and among human rights groups.
