Western Australia’s rescue helicopter service is introducing doctors on board for the first time in its 23-year history, upgrading from a solo paramedic model. Twelve doctors will work alongside paramedics in a joint crew configuration, bringing WA in line with other Australian states and potentially saving five additional lives per 100 cases attended. The service, which has flown 11,000 missions since inception, will launch the new model from Jandakot before expanding to Bunbury by next year.
