The Motley Fool Chief Investment Officer Scott Phillips warns the fuel excise cut will lead to a bigger problem.
“We’re in a supply constraint environment; there’s only so much fuel to go around. When you drop the price of something, are you going to use more or less of it? You’re going to use more of it,” Mr Phillips told Sky News Australia.
“Driving up demand at the same time as saying we’ve got a supply-demand is not smart policy.
“The solution may be worse than the problem it’s set out to solve.”
