Former US President Barack Obama has stepped up his criticism of Donald Trump and Republicans during a campaign rally in suburban Atlanta ahead of the US midterm elections. Calling Trump and the Republican Party “not serious people”, Obama said Americans were paying the price for what he described as their lack of seriousness. He appeared in Georgia to support Democratic candidates, including Senator Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial hopeful Keisha Lance Bottoms, as the final week of campaigning unfolded. Obama also revisited his criticism of Trump’s lavish White House renovations, escalating his attacks during a cross-country campaign tour.
