Wes Streeting confirms he will stand in any contest to replace Keir Starmer as the UK PM

Former UK health secretary Wes Streeting has confirmed he will stand in any contest to replace Keir Starmer as the Prime Minister.

Mr Streeting chose to break his silence after his cabinet resignation at a conference of like-minded Labour progressives as he ended speculation about whether he’ll stand for the leadership.

When questioned about whether he’d contest the Labour leadership, Mr Streeting said: “We need a proper contest with the best candidates on the field, and I’ll be standing.”

Mr Streeting also expressed hopes Britain would reverse Brexit in future, saying the UK needs a “new special relationship” with the European Union.
