What began as a victory week in West Bengal has quickly descended into violence, fear and political chaos. Fresh clashes, shootings and arrests have erupted across multiple districts following the May 4 election results. The killing of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant, 41-year-old Chandranath Rath, in Madhyamgram has become the biggest flashpoint. Police say unidentified attackers on motorcycles opened fire at close range before fleeing. Another BJP worker was reportedly shot in Basirhat amid celebrations. Authorities say over 400 people have been arrested and more than 200 FIRs registered as unrest spreads. For many residents, election slogans have now given way to sirens, barricades and anxiety.
