West Papua deforestation exposed in new documentary ‘Pesta Babi’ | The Pacific | ABC News

A new documentary, Pesta Babi (Pig Feast), investigates the rapid deforestation of West Papua and the forces driving it.

The film alleges Indonesia’s push for “food security” and “energy transition” is being used to justify large-scale agribusiness expansion, clearing millions of acres of forest and displacing Indigenous communities.

It also examines the role of the Indonesian military in supporting these projects. Filmmakers Dandhy Laksono and journalist Victor Mambor say telling this story has put them at personal risk.

‘The Pacific’ is hosted by Johnson Raela and Alice Lolohea.
