Westpac to halt rural bank closures until 2030

Westpac will halt rural bank closures until 2030 and introduce a regional banking pilot program.

The bank will hold off on closures two and a half years longer than other major banks.

Dungog will be among four regional towns the bank will send workers to operate out of in lieu of a physical branch.

Despite only four per cent of total transactions taking place face to face, Westpac believes these interactions remained important for members of the community.

Regional Development Minister Kristy McBain is welcoming Westpac’s commitment to the regions.
