What’s the happiest country in the world?
For nine years in a row, Finland has been named the happiest country in the World Happiness Report, topping the chart alongside its Nordic neighbours. Given these countries experience long winters and pay high taxes, this may seem counterintuitive – so what is their secret?
Health editor Alexandra Thompson spoke with Jan-Emmanuel De Neve – a behavioural scientist and editor of the World Happiness Report – to find out. Few people know more than he does when it comes to what makes a country content, and how the rest of us can use these findings to bring a bit more joy to our everyday lives.
