Why Didn’t EU Sign Greenland Statement? Brussels Blindsided As Six Leaders Break Ranks On Statement

The European Commission on Tuesday reiterated its position on Venezuela, stressing support for an inclusive democratic transition despite Delcy Rodríguez being sworn in as interim president. Commission spokesperson Anitta Hipper said the EU does not recognise the legitimacy of Maduro or Rodríguez, but will maintain targeted engagement with Venezuelan authorities to protect EU interests and principles. She emphasised that Venezuela’s future must be shaped through dialogue involving democratically elected opposition figures. Separately, the Commission confirmed that discussions at the Paris “Coalition of the Willing” meeting are focused solely on Ukraine, while reaffirming EU commitments to international law and territorial integrity in related global issues.
