During production on the first film, Streep chose to use Method acting, and despite earning an Oscar nomination for her role, she admitted to Entertainment Weekly in 2021 that it was a “horrible” experience.
She said, “I was [miserable] in my trailer. I could hear them all rocking and laughing. I was so depressed! I said, ‘Well, it’s the price you pay for being boss!’ That’s the last time I ever attempted a Method thing.”
Speaking to Vogue earlier this month, Anne Hathaway admitted she was “thankful” that Meryl took a different approach for the sequel, and wasn’t in character in between takes.
She added, “This time, she didn’t stay in character the entire time, so we had a lot of laughs!”
